On Sunday, the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 will have none other than Dr. Phil as the honorary NASCAR pace car driver. The pop psychologist is going to take the wheel and have some fun before the Cup Series race.

Things are bigger in Texas. Is there anyone as big in daytime TV as Dr. Phil? It is an interesting pairing, for sure. But not the most outlandish guest NASCAR has ever had at a race.

The news was announced late Friday morning. Dr. Phil is coming to NASCAR, how do we feel about that race fans?

I think NASCAR fans are hoping for more relevant guests than Dr. Phil. I can totally understand why fans would be disappointed with this choice. The Cup Series should have superstars, musicians, movie stars, and others in these positions.

It’s not even really in the height of Dr. Phil’s celebrity himself. This would have maybe made sense a decade or so ago. I’m just not sure SMI got this one right. Maybe if there is a fight after the race on Sunday, Phil can come in and mediate things between the drivers.

Or maybe he’s in town to talk with Denny Hamlin and Marcus Smith?

Dr. Phil set to take in NASCAR Cup Series action at Texas

Now, as for the racing on the track, Dr. Phil isn’t going to have an answer for NASCAR. Actually, this might be the perfect opportunity to settle the charter negotiations, figure out what to do about horsepower versus tires, and more.

NASCAR has its fair share of issues. However, this season things have been trending up. At least until the last two short track races. Things started out so fun and fans tuned in and now it feels like that momentum has been lost.

The Texas race has not produced a ton of action lately. The playoff race has been dreaded by drivers and fans alike. However, there is always a chance that this Next Gen car can put on a show with the intermediate tracks.

Dr. Phil will be in town to take in the NASCAR action. Let’s hope his services aren’t needed and everyone can play nice on Sunday.
