Erik Jones, Chase Briscoe share private text messages after going back and forth about Phoenix incident

After Chase Briscoe claimed he never called, Erik Jones is producing receipts to prove that he did indeed reach out to Briscoe. Oh, and Briscoe is doing the same thing. This might be the best rivalry and driver beef of the NASCAR season so far.

Erik Jones told the media directly on Friday that he would call Chase Briscoe. He wanted to give it a few days so he wouldn’t be upset and Briscoe wouldn’t be upset. Jones believes Briscoe is to blame for his wreck at Phoenix, to make a long story short.

Well, Briscoe said earlier today that he didn’t get a call. Not a missed call or anything. So, Jones had to bring the evidence. It isn’t often you see athletes sharing personal text messages. However, this situation warranted it, apparently.

Now, this is a text that Jones sent to Briscoe after, according to him, he “got no answer” from calling him.

Soon after this, Chase Briscoe was asked about it again. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver says that he had his number changed a few months ago. Then he shared his own text message showing he told Erik Jones about the new numbers.

Looks like a case of wrong number and miscommunication. It’s not like they’re at the same race track right now or something…

Is this going to end up an embarrassing misunderstanding between two drivers? Neither Briscoe or Jones are big on rivalries and grudges it seems, and this might be enough to put all of this drama to bed.

Chase Briscoe claims Erik Jones didn’t call

Just to be fair and well-rounded, let’s go back to what Chase Briscoe had to say earlier today. Granted these two drivers are focused on getting the job done at Bristol, but they will also have to deal with one another more than likely.

Briscoe even made a point about the Cup Series garage as a whole – drivers complaining about hard racing. But says it isn’t necessarily Erik Jones among that group,

“Never got a phone call, never had a missed call. Would have gladly taken the phone call for sure,” Briscoe explained to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “I don’t know if he just watched the replay and kind of saw what happened but never got a phone call. So, I don’t know, it is frustrating how guys are, not him, but just half of the field is sensitive on racing hard and that’s what we’re here to do is race hard.

“It should be hard for you to pass me like it should be really hard for me to pass you. I don’t know why guys get so mad about racing hard because that’s literally what we’re paid to do is race. It’s definitely mindblowing how sensitive some guys are to it.”

Chase Briscoe is starting P6 tomorrow, Erik Jones starts P15. We could see these two side by side at some point on Sunday. Let’s see what happens.
