A week after NASCAR raced in the shadow of Hollywood, one of entertainment's former stars had a big announcement to share.
Former "Malcolm in the Middle" star Frankie Muniz will attempt to make his debut in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Feb. 17. He'll need to qualify his way into the series opener.
Muniz drove full-time in the ARCA Menards Series in 2023, sitting in the No. 30 Ford for Rette Jones Racing.
Can finally announce that I will be attempting to make my @nascar Xfinity Series debut at Daytona International Speedway next weekend in the #35 Ford Performance Ford Mustang! @fordperformancehttps://t.co/JwgjuGmKIe

Muniz garnered 11 top-10 finishes and a fourth-place points finish in the ARCA Menards Series in 2023, along with an average finish of 11th. A lifelong racing fan before becoming a driver, Muniz has made it known that he isn't just in the sport to ride around.
In his ARCA Menards Series debut at Daytona last year, Muniz finished 11th out of 40 starters after qualifying 16th. However, Daytona won’t be his only shot in the national spotlight; he will run a limited NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule for Joey Gase Motorsports in 2024.
Muniz said in a statement that he was “humbled, yet excited” to attempt his Xfinity Series debut with the team. He will have to qualify his way into the event and will have his chance to do so the morning of the race at 11:30 a.m. ET.
The race itself, the United Rentals 300, goes green at 5 p.m. that evening on Fox Sports 1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Muniz’s first Xfinity Series practice session is on Friday, Feb. 16 at 4:35 p.m. ET.
While many race fans never get the chance to see their on-track dreams come to fruition, Muniz is an exception and one who will finally get his chance on one of the biggest stages in NASCAR.
