Former Daytona 500 winner to field Xfinity Series entries in 2025

The NASCAR Xfinity Series can officially add a new entry to its lineup sheet for 2025.

On Thursday, it was announced that 1990 Daytona 500 winner Derrike Cope and his family have formed a new NASCAR Xfinity Series team, dubbed Cope Family Racing, to compete in the Xfinity Series. Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass first broke the news.

Leland Honeyman Jr. and Thomas Annunziata are the drivers who have been tapped to split time behind the wheel of the No. 70 car in 2025. The team will receive cars from Richard Childress Racing and engines from ECR.

Honeyman was a full-time Xfinity Series competitor in 2024, while Annunziata made five Xfinity Series starts in 2024.

Team owner Derrike Cope is a NASCAR veteran himself. His most famous moment in the sport came when he won the 1990 Daytona 500 after Dale Earnhardt cut a tire on the final lap. He won the second and final race of his Cup Series career later in the 1990 season at Dover.

Cope's last NASCAR start came in the 2021 Daytona 500, while his last Xfinity Series start came in 2016 at Kansas.

The team's 2025 schedule will be announced at a later date.
