Gio Ruggiero paces NASCAR Truck Series practice at Michigan

Less than 24 hours after winning Friday's ARCA Menards Series race at Michigan International Speedway, Gio Ruggiero was the fastest driver in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice at MIS. 

Ruggiero, who enters Saturday's Truck Series race fifth in the series standings, paced the practice session with a fastest lap of 38.805 seconds around the two-mile oval. 

"I'm excited for the race," Ruggiero told Fox Sports. "I think we have a really good piece."

Corey Heim, Cole Butcher, Connor Mosack and Christopher Bell rounded out the top five, with Chandler Smith, Ben Rhodes, Jake Garcia, Stewart Friesen and Ross Chastain completed the top 10. 

Notable practice results

Other notable practice results include Carson Hocevar in 11th, Kaden Honeycutt in 12th, Ty Majeski in 14th, Corey LaJoie in 16th and Christian Eckes in 22nd.

Series points leader Layne Riggs was 21st-fastest but missed the first 30 minutes of the session due to a penalty. 

Spencer Davis was slowest (36th) in practice, laying down a fastest lap of 40.705 seconds.

Truck Series qualifying is next on Fox One, with the DQS Solutions & Staffing 250 being scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. ET green flag. Coverage of Saturday's race will be provided by FS1, NRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
