Harrison Burton to drive No. 51 car for Rick Ware Racing in NASCAR All-Star Race
David TuckerNews-Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK

Last season, Harrison Burton won the Coke Zero Sugar 400 and with that, punched his ticket to the NASCAR All-Star Race. All race winners from the season prior get an automatic spot in the $1,000,000 exhibition race.

Rick Ware Racing is going to gladly put Harrison Burton in the No. 51 car this week at North Wilkesboro. This means that RWR will be in the All-Star Race for the first time ever. Burton gets to make his Cup return, and Ware gets his car in the big race for his team and sponsors.

This is a win-win for these two. Burton is still finding his footing at AM Racing in the Xfinity Series. Getting the call back up to Cup could be a big confidence booster, even if just for a week.

Morton Buildings will serve as the sponsor on the No. 51 car with Harrison Burton driving. I think this is a really smart move. For this week, Cody Ware will pilot the No. 15 car and will try to make the All-Star main event through the open race.

“Being a part of the NASCAR All-Star Race for the first time is a milestone moment for our organization,” said Rick Ware, team owner, in a press release. “It’s an honor to have a place in the main event, and we’re just as proud to provide Harrison the opportunity to compete in the All-Star Race. He definitely earned his spot and he deserves to be here. It’s a big opportunity for both of us.”

Harrison Burton earned spot at All-Star Race

Last season, Harrison Burton earned two top-10 finishes for the Wood Brothers. He capped off the regular season and his time at WBR in the 21 car with that Daytona win. While he flamed out in the playoffs, it was a valiant effort from Burton, who knew at that time that he would not return to the Cup Series for 2025.

It is strange for Burton to race the All-Star Race with a team he didn’t win with. But that is how it is working out in this case. If you look at recent results in the Xfinity Series, Burton is starting to string together a few great finishes.

P3 at Rockingham, P8 at Talladega, and P6 at Texas. Really strong three-week period. Now he has to keep that momentum going through this week and into Charlotte next week. I think this Cup Series return is coming at the perfect time.
