Joey Logano was understandably frustrated after Sunday's YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
The three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion led the most laps (35) of any driver on Sunday and had perhaps the fastest car in the field. But fuel mileage issues late in the race shuffled Logano and his Penske teammate in Ryan Blaney out of the top five, and when it was all said and done, Logano finished 16th.
It was a golden opportunity at victory and a Championship 4 berth down the drain for the No. 22 team, who will need a win at Martinsville next week to advance to Phoenix.
"It was a battle throughout the day," Logano told NBC Sports. "Led some good laps throughout the day, just the laps that mattered we weren't there, unfortunately. Really, really frustrating. Really frustrating, I tell you, because you're so close. When you see in front of you what you have to do, and you can't do anything about it, it's frustrating. We know what we gotta do now, it's pretty simple."

Logano also had to drive Sunday's race with an apparent mechanical issue. The future Hall of Famer reported over the radio multiple times that was smelling gear grease, and a Penske-affiliated driver in Josh Berry had a similar issue that ended ending his day.
Now, Logano's title defense will rest on whether or not he can win at Martinsville and get back to Phoenix for the third time in four years.
