With the Pennzoil 400 pole award locked up, Joey Logano is ready to put the silly webbed glove penalty behind him. After all, he’s dominated NASCAR qualifying for three weeks now, and today proved it wasn’t just a glove that did it.

Joey Logano was given his penalty at the race track, started at the rear and served a pass-through penalty to begin the Atlanta race. Then he got hit with a $10,000 fine. In the grand scheme of things, not the worst penalty.

However, Logano called the ordeal “embarrassing” in Las Vegas. Other drivers teased him a bit about the glove, and as far as the Team Penske driver is concerned, it is time to move on.

“As a driver, you work with the team and hey, I’m going to take a portion of responsibility for that too, obviously, I shouldn’t have put the glove on,” Logano said to the media, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “That being said, I didn’t build the glove, I didn’t make it on my own. I can’t sew, okay? So, yeah I mean that’s what it was and we’re having conversations about it. What I’m proud of about this team is that yeah that was a tough situation for us it was hard to go through, embarrassing, for sure.

“The fact that we got through it, and just move on, and focus on the next week and we showed we had some speed in our race car and to be able to put it on the pole here. To me, is a statement-type lap, so proud of that.

Speaking on the safety aspect, Joey Logano wasn’t worried. The driver doesn’t believe he put himself in any more danger than is already inherent in racing.

Joey Logano wins the Pennzoil 400 pole award

Despite the penalty last week, Joey Logano was all smiles in qualifying. He was able to make it to the final round of qualifying after cracking the top-5 in his group. Then, he put down a fast lap to claim his third career pole at Las Vegas.

This is his second pole and third front-row start in three races this season. The last time a driver started on the front row in each of the first three races of the season was Ricky Rudd in 2000. Rudd started the season with two P2 starts at Daytona and Rockingham. Then, in the third race of the season, at Las Vegas, Rudd won the pole.

Logano has been quick this year. The new Mustang Dark Horse has been solid to start 2024. There is still more to discover about the new body, but it’s gone well so far. Austin Cindric, Logano’s teammate, will start P3. Kyle Larson prevented an all-Ford all-Penske front row.

Once again, Joey Logano put the Pennzoil Ford on the pole for the Pennzoil 400. When he’s good at Las Vegas, he’s really good. Do you think Logano is the favorite for Sunday’s race? Or will a Hendrick car be the one in Victory Lane for the third time in a row in Vegas?
