Joey Logano was left wondering what might’ve been after this year’s All-Star Race when the driver of the Team Penske No. 22 Ford finished second to Christopher Bell at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
New in 2025, NASCAR added a new wrinkle to add more incentive to the regular season by introducing a 32-driver in-season tournament in which the winner receives a $1 million prize in the elimination-style bracket that will be set once the checkered flag waves at Pocono Raceway this weekend.
This marks the first time NASCAR has introduced a tournament-style format in the heart of the regular season.
Appearing on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio with Mike Bagley and Pete Pistone Tuesday, Logano says he’s ready for the chance to emerge victorious in this new tournament, while also remaining focused on winning races along the way.
“There’s a million bucks on the line, that’s plenty for me to go to work,” Logano said. “I get it, you saw how upset I was after the (All-Star) race. It’s the same number so yeah I’m excited about it. It gives us something to talk about at this point of the year outside of just the playoffs.
“The guys that are already in the playoffs like it gives a little something more. I think it’s a great idea and something I’m excited to see how it plays out. I’m sure it’s going to be something exciting enough that we’ll probably do again, but yeah I think it’s great.”
Logano and the rest of the Cup Series field heads to Pocono Raceway this weekend. Race coverage begins at 2 p.m. ET on Prime.
The first race of the in-season challenge kicks off at EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta on Saturday, June 28.
