Joey Logano reminds Ty Gibbs that starting a feud with him ‘isn’t a good idea’ after a heated LA Clash confrontation
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano, for a second straight year, has kicked off his season with a bitter feud at the LA Clash at the Callosum. Last year, it was his former teammate Kyle Busch who publicly called him out for being two-faced, and this season, the clash was with Busch’s JGR replacement Ty Gibbs.

Logano and Gibbs fought for the win throughout the day and had a couple of racing incidents. With just ten laps left in the race, an aggressive move to take the lead from Gibbs saw him running Logano too wide. Both drivers lost their momentum and fell down the order, while Denny Hamlin used the opportunity to take the lead and eventually the win.

Logano, after the race, confronted Gibbs in front of his hauler and had a few heated arguments with him. While addressing the issue, Logano reminded Gibbs that he made a mistake by using him up. Considering the duo’s history, it’s not a good idea for him to employ such tactics in his sophomore year.

He just used me up, all the way to the wall. There’s a fine line of kind of pushing each other up a little bit, racing for a win. And using me up with the history that he has with me is not a good idea for him. Logano said.

Ty Gibbs has huge expectations on his shoulders, and feuding with Joey Logano isn’t good

Gibbs, who came into the Cup Series in 2023 as the reigning Xfinity Series champion, had a solid year. Despite ending the year winless, he almost made it into the playoffs on points, and going into the 2024 season, many expect him to secure his maiden NASCAR race wins and enter the playoffs.

I think he’s going to have tremendous success this year. I think he’s going to be part of the playoffs. I don’t think that’s going to be a big shock to anyone. But he’s far ahead of where I was when I was his age for sure.

Denny Hamlin said of Ty Gibbs.

But having a feud with Joey Logano isn’t the right way forward for him, as the Penske driver is infamous for retaliation and aggressive driving. To a certain degree, Logano was just like Gibbs when he came into the Cup series at a very young age. Hence, the veteran knows most things about how Gibbs feels and how to counter him.

Logano, in the past, has had some huge on-track incidents with many drivers. His position in the NASCAR community as a veteran driver would easily help him spin the narrative if he wants to make Gibbs the bad guy. The Youngster is one of the most disliked drivers in the NASCAR scene; hence, there is the possibility that more fans could turn against him if the Logano feud went south.
