Katherine Legge and Ross Chastain’s teams both received NASCAR penalties following a hectic Coca-Cola 600 weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
NASCAR confirmed separate punishments for Live Fast Motorsports and JR Motorsports after post-race inspections uncovered issues involving a dislodged wheel and loose lug nuts.
The penalties arrived after one of the busiest weekends in American motorsport, with Legge attempting the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double while Chastain competed in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte.
Legge and Live Fast Motorsports suffered a dislodged wheel during the Coca-Cola 600 after the issue occurred on Lap 204 of Sunday’s race.
NASCAR cited section 8.8.10.4a of the NASCAR Rule Book while issuing the penalties.
As part of the punishment, jack man Ian Schultz and tire changer Deiontae Jones have both been suspended for the next two races at Nashville and Michigan.
Live Fast Motorsports was not tentatively scheduled to compete in either event.
The penalty added to a difficult weekend for Legge after attempting one of motorsport’s toughest challenges by competing in both the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.
Ross Chastain and the JR Motorsports No. 9 team were also penalised following Saturday night’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Post-race inspection procedures found two missing or loose lug nuts on the car. The violation fell under sections 8.8.10.4a and 10.5.2.5g of the NASCAR Rule Book. JR Motorsports received a $5,000 fine as a result of the infraction.
The penalties capped another dramatic Charlotte weekend, with NASCAR officials issuing sanctions shortly after one of the busiest race weekends of the season.
