Kathrine Legge has quickly learned that it's not easy competing against NASCAR drivers.
Legge made her Cup Series debut in March, driving the No. 78 Chevrolet for Live Fast Motorsports. Her day at Phoenix Raceway was cut short after making contact with Daniel Suarez.
Since her rough outing at Phoenix, the 44-year-old has competed in a handful of Xfinity Series races. She most recently placed 34th at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Next up for Legge is a Cup Series race at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. Earlier this week, she opened up about her 2025 season as well as her outlook for the remainder of the year.
Legge admit that she thought she'd have a bit more success this season.
"I thought that I was a lot better than I am," Legge said, via NASCAR. "I have no doubt that I’ll get there. But how quickly? I thought I would drive the car a couple of times and then be up at the sharp end, but it’s taking a little longer than I anticipated."
Legge's struggles are a testament to the level of competition she's facing every weekend.
"NASCAR is not easy. It’s one of the hardest championships to chase in the world because of the strength and depth. There are so many good drivers over here that are widely versed in stock car racing."
Unfortunately, NASCAR fans haven't exactly treated Legge with respect this season. Following her rough performance at Rockingham Speedway, she received death threats and hate mail on social media.
"I have earned my seat on that race track. I’ve worked just as hard as any of the other drivers out there, and I’ve been racing professionally for the last 20 years," Legge said. "I’m 100 percent sure that the ... the teams that employed me - without me bringing any sponsorship money for the majority of those 20 years - did not do so as a DEI hire, or a gimmick, or anything else. It’s because I can drive a race car."
We'll see if Legge silences her critics this weekend in Mexico City.
