Kenny Wallace agrees with what Kyle Larson said about Denny Hamlin after the NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover Motor Speedway. In a YouTube video, the former NASCAR star took a closer look at Hamlin’s fourth victory of the season.
“Kyle Larson said what Denny Hamlin did today was very impressive,” Kenny Wallace said. “Denny’s got the ability to be at the high lane and keep his car rolling fast and just battled it out.”
Wallace went on to ask how Hamlin can perform at a high level despite the lawsuit his team, 23XI Racing, has with NASCAR and the fans not liking him. “Denny Hamlin knows that you guys don’t like him, but he says he loves it,” Wallace stated.
Kenny Wallace later said Hamlin and his 23XI co-owner Michael Jordan “survive on s*** talk” because they are “mentally strong.” He then added, “The one thing I learned about Denny Hamlin, just like Rusty Wallace, when people would talk s*** about my big brother, I take a drink of my coffee and I’m like ‘You’ve done f*cked up.'”
23XI and Front Row Motorsports (FRM) filed a lawsuit against NASCAR last year for monopolistic practices. Wallace has been impressed with Hamlin being able to compete at a high level despite the challenges 23XI has faced this year when it comes to potentially losing its charter status.
The one thing to keep in mind is Hamlin drives for Joe Gibbs Racing and is hungry to win his first NASCAR Cup Series championship. “It shocks me that Denny Hamlin can go out and win these races, and he hears all these noises going on,” Wallace said. “My friends, Denny Hamlin is one of the greats. He’s a Hall of Famer; he will go down in history as one of the strongest mental people I’ve ever witnessed.”
It’s hard to argue with Wallace about Hamlin’s legacy. In his career, Hamlin has won 58 Cup Series races and has earned 369 top-10 finishes in 706 starts. He has won the Daytona 500 three times and has earned seven victories at Pocono Raceway, the most in the track’s history. In 2023, Hamlin was named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers.
