Last week at Farmer City Speedway in Farmer City, Illinois, things got wild on the track, and Kevin Harvick has thoughts about it. The MARS Late Model race went from bad to worse to borderline criminal very quickly.
Bob Gardner took matters into his own hands after being spun out by Daryn Klein. That end result was something you only see in racing video games. As Mamba Smith pointed out on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour, you rarely see this kind of retaliation, even at a place like Bowman Gray.

Harvick reacted to the chaos. He has been on the receiving end and the giving end of retaliation. In his later years, he doesn’t see it as productive.
“I’ve seen that happen while they’re racing. You know, because of the slope nose and they turn them over,” Kevin Harvick said. “But I’ve never seen it happen at five miles an hour. I hate all of the retaliation stuff like that. I’ve done that a couple of times myself. What a dumb thing to do.”
Retaliation is a tricky thing in motorsports. Perhaps the best solution is to leave it to the pits after the finish. No reason to use a car as a weapon when you have two perfectly good hands to work with.
Right now, Kevin Harvick is more in his mentor phase in racing. He is great on the FOX broadcast and on his weekly podcast. His insight and thoughts on the sport are very valuable to fans throughout the season.
However, he has another job right now. On top of being a dad and raising his son Keelan, Kevin is also teaching him to be a racecar driver. The thing is, Keelan is beating his dad on the track with ease and consistency lately.
Harvick has a lot to teach his son. In the modern stock car world, the drivers are getting younger and younger. Keelan just turned 13 earlier this month, and he has won a CARS Tour West and CARS Tour Pro Late Model race already. He will climb the ladder very quickly in the next few years as he starts to build his career towards NASCAR.
Kevin Harvick has done a lot in his career. He has retaliated on the track. He has been wrecked for his actions. If he says it isn’t worth it, it isn’t worth it. I’m sure Keelan will grow up as one of the most respectful racers on the circuit when the time comes for him to race in NASCAR.
