Joey Logano was not thrilled with Christopher Bell following the latter’s victory during the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway over the weekend. Kevin Harvick watched on as the three-time champion voiced his frustration after the checkered flag waved.
Logano accused Bell of running him into the wall to take the lead in the closing laps of the race. He added he would have spun Bell out had he gotten back to his bumper. While Logano walked back his comments a bit, stating it “wasn’t as bad as I thought it was” on Monday, Harvick was still surprised at the Team Penske wheelman’s initial reaction.
“You see [Christopher Bell] make the move and Logano block him. To me, when you block, it’s game on at that point,” Harvick claimed, via Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour. “He slid up the heel right there. Joey not happy afterwards. I think if the roles were reversed right there, Joey does the exact same thing to try to win a million dollars.”
It’s not hard to see why Logano would be a bit frustrated. He was the dominant car for much of the night. leading a race-high 139-of-250 laps. However, the highly anticipated Promoter’s Caution changed everything.
Speedway Motorsports CEO Marcus Smith ordered Michael Waltrip to throw the yellow flag at Lap 216. That brought the field down pit road one final time. That is, most of the field. Logano and Team Penske teammate Ryan Blaney were among the drivers who stayed out. Logano blocked Bell as long as he could on old tires. Bell cleared him with nine laps to go.
“Yeah, I’m all about no gimmicks with the caution,” Logano said of the Promoter’s Caution, following the race. “I am all about that. I’m a little — me and Marcus Smith aren’t seeing eye to eye right now, OK? I’ve got to have a word with him.”
Perhaps it was a combination of a million dollars slipping through his fingertips and missing out on another All-Star Race win that incensed Logano. At least he tried to walk back his comments regarding Bell, which didn’t make much sense from the minute they left his mouth.
At the least, NASCAR can see its best and brightest are fighting tooth and nail for the win in the All-Star Race. That’s always going to mean a better product, and Kevin Harvick and the FOX crew will enjoy that when they start broadcasting the Cup Series once again in 2026.
