Kyle Busch isn’t exactly thrilled with his No. 8 Chevrolet during Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Busch has complained all race long that his car is tight.
Busch’s team made an adjustment during a pit stop, but not the one Busch wanted. He wasn’t happy and at the end of Stage 1, Busch fumed at his team.
“It’s impossible to be tighter, the fu*k it is. … Super tight,” Busch said on his radio. “You went down on the right front air, that’s the wrong way.”
It hasn’t been Busch’s weekend to this point. He did not turn a lap in practice due to power steering issues and then started from the rear of the field for making unapproved adjustments. Now, it’s a balance issue.
Fortunately, this race is 600 miles. Only a stage through, Busch and his team have nearly 300 laps to figure it out. But can Busch snap his career-long 69-race winless streak? That’s a bigger question and right now, he’s far from doing that.
At the very least, Busch needs to rally for a solid finish to inch closer to playoff contention. He entered Sunday’s race 17th in the points standings, with four top 10s.
Saturday, Richard Childress Racing officially picked up Busch’s option for the 2026 season. In a contract year, there was speculation Busch could head elsewhere. But Busch is staying put. Richard Childress hopes that if they can get the car right, the results will improve.
“Well, it all boils down to the drivers having their own feel,” Childress said, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “And we’re working hard to get that feel. The first year, we won three races right out of the bat. We’ve changed a little in our engineering and I think that bit us just a little. But he’s right. We’ve got to get the car the feel that he wants. These cars are different. And once we get that feel he wants, it’s going to be Katie Bar the Door.”
