Kyle Busch Comes Clean on Texas Contact With Nemechek

Kyle Busch has been in the NASCAR spotlight for quite some time this season. As he was on his way to score a second top-ten finish on Sunday, his run was derailed due to an incident with James Hunter Nemechek.

During the Würth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway, Busch was running in the top 10 throughout the race. During the race restart, he was in 11th place. However, on lap 266 of 267, he collided with Nemechek.

Following the incident, both drivers took to their own X accounts to talk about the situation. “Not freaking clear. great day going. and just got wrecked. what an a**,” John Hunter Nemechek wrote on X.

In response to this, Busch posted some screenshots and clippings of the SMT data on his X account. “I did not start this. The 42 apparently doesn’t know where the RS of his car is and where he is in relation to the outside wall. There was two feet outside him, and I was judging my left side tires to the hash marks. Always know who you’re racing beside.” Busch wrote.

The Richard Childress Racing driver finished in 20th while Nemechek finished in 21st place. Despite having a disappointing end to his day, Busch had one positive thing to look back on: his promising performance for most of the race.

This positive outcome could have been a result of the recent crew chief swap on the No. 8 RCR team.

Prior to the race at Texas, Richard Childress Racing announced Andy Street as Busch’s new crew chief. The swap was shortly made after the Talladega race, and former crew chief Jim Pohlman was moved to a leadership role in the competition department.

In the race at Texas Motor Speedway, Busch and Street got off to a good start as the No. 8 secured 6th place in the qualifying. Post qualifying, while talking to the media, Busch talked about working with Street so far.

“Andy’s got a good focus here for this weekend, qualifying sixth, great start for us, looking forward to keeping that momentum rolling,” the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion said.

RCR will be hoping that this is just the beginning of more success for this duo. It will be interesting to see if the arrival of a new crew chief can end Kyle Busch’s winless streak.
