Kyle Busch on penalties for Ricky Stenhouse Jr.: ‘Doesn’t matter whether I agree or not’
Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

About a week later and Kyle Busch has not changed his mind about what happened on the track at North Wilkesboro. The NASCAR world was sent into a frenzy with the Ricky Stenhouse Jr. fight.

Kyle Busch hasn’t said a lot about the fight at North Wilkesboro. This week he can’t really avoid it since he has media obligations. Busch had on his sunglasses and kept a cool head while answering questions quickly and bluntly.

When asked if he felt the penalties to Stenhouse were appropriate, this is how he answered.

“It doesn’t matter whether I agree or not, NASCAR makes the penalties,” Busch said, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. He followed up when asked again, “NASCAR makes the penalties, so…”

Then he was asked about the lead-up to the fight and if anything could have gone differently.

“Maybe but I walked into the situation and just, it was calm to start and then escalated from there.”

Kyle Busch has not changed his mind about the incident and he has not spoken to Stenhouse since the incident. So, it seems that they are still not on great terms. Busch doesn’t want to be fighting Stenhouse anymore, though.

“I don’t need to fight with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. I need to fight with the top three guys so I can start winning some races.”

As for what Richard Childress said about Stenhouse, Busch was happy his team owner had his back. Who wouldn’t be?

“That’s Richard, I mean, it’s fine. He’s given [us] support and having our back, so I appreciate that.”

Busch and Stenhouse Jr. are not going to be doing any autograph signings together any time soon. Although I don’t think we’re going to see any retaliation this week.

Kyle Busch comes up short in first race of weekend

This weekend was a little busier than usual for Kyle Busch. The driver was racing for RCR in the Xfinity Series today in the 33 car. While things started fine, Busch would soon find his car was ill-handling.

As the race went on, Busch lost grip and control of his car, and that meant losing speed. Drivers like Justin Allgaier, Sam Mayer, and Ty Gibbs were able to pressure him and make him use up his tires.

By the time the race got into the final stages, it was clear Busch didn’t have the tires or speed to compete with the faster cars. While he finished P6, he is not out there for top-10 finishes. He is out there for wins.

Kyle Busch struggled in his first race with winning speed. He is going to hope to have more luck in his Cup Series efforts. A top-5 or a win at Charlotte would be major for this team.
