Kyle Busch plans to make Christopher Bell ‘sorry on the race track’

Kyle Busch believes Christopher Bell ignited a rivalry between the two former Joe Gibbs Racing teammates during last weekend’s race at COTA.

Bell collided with Busch and spun the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, leading to a confrontation on pit road after the checkered flag had waved. Following the heated conversation, Bell maintained his innocence, while Busch has been annoyed with Bell for not taking the blame for his actions.

Speaking with FOX’s Bob Pockrass ahead of this weekend’s race at Richmond, it’s evident there will be no love between the two drivers when the Cup Series takes the track on Easter Sunday.

First, Busch elaborated on why he wanted to speak with Bell more during the week, explaining his annoyance with the No. 20 wheelman’s side of the story.

“Yeah. I mean, just to give more of my side, then what I said on pit road. To have him get a greater understanding into my objectives, and what I’ve got going on, versus what he might think that he’s got going on,” Busch said, regarding his conversations with Bell. “Think he understood that. And then heard his side of it.

“Didn’t really believe much into it, when I didn’t even give consideration to him making a move because he was four lengths back, and then all of a sudden he was there, you know. So like, I knew he was back there but too far to do anything, and I got hit, so it is what it is.”

Evidently, Busch has plans to exact some revenge when the opportunity presents itself, as he told Pockrass he’ll be running Bell a little harder moving forward than he usually would.

“Run him harder for a little bit, until he concedes that, you know, he’s sorry on the racetrack, and then get back to normal,” Busch stated, regarding his plans for racing Bell in the future.

Alas, the added frustration for Busch is there, because Bell is a former teammate at JGR, and Bell also drove for Busch’s former Truck Series team in Kyle Busch Motorsports. Not that Bell owes Busch anything now, but the former NASCAR champion expects some respect, at the least.

“Definitely frustrating. You know, when you — especially when they’re the KBM alums, right? Like when you’re racing against guys that have come through KBM, and you’ve helped them along the way, and you know, you feel as though they’re taking that extra 10% rather than giving a little bit out of respect,” Busch added. “But, you know, everybody’s got their own race out there, and they try to do what they need to do.

“But obviously Christopher’s in really good stuff, at a really good place. And, you know, he needs to understand that.”

It seems like there’s more chapters left to be written in the story of Kyle Busch and Christopher Bell. We’ll see where the drivers go from here moving forward.
