Kyle Larson barrel rolls in High Limit sprint car race: ‘I suck’
Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

One day after spinning and crashing out of Sunday’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway, Kyle Larson was involved in another wreck Monday, this time during the High Limit Racing event at Kokomo Speedway in Indiana.

Larson, racing for the final transfer spot with five laps to go, tried to slide across Cale Thomas coming off of Turn 2, but failed to clear him. The two made contact and Larson’s No. 57 sprint car barrel rolled down the back straightaway.

Larson said afterwards he was fine, before saying “I suck.”

“Yeah, I’m good,” Larson said. “Just racing hard for a transfer. I put myself in a hole, so trying to race hard and just ran ourselves out of space, so probably my fault… I suck.”

High Limit Racing, co-owned by Larson and five-time World of Outlaws champion Brad Sweet, is in its second year of competition. Sweet is the current points leader, sitting ahead of Tyler Courtney and Brent Marks. Larson entered Monday’s event 17th in the points standings, with one win thus far this season.

Kyle Larson breaks down what caused wreck that ended his day at Darlington

Larson finished P34 at Darlington after getting loose in Turn 3 and hitting the outside wall. He was running seventh with 41 laps to go at the time of the spin.

“I was struggling,” Larson said after the race. “Got really loose at the end of that long run, and William [Byron] caught me. I was just letting him by in [Turns]1 and 2, and I just kind of hung out there. I was trying to be really wide away from him, and I just stayed wide for too long; got hung in the marbles and hit the wall. We had bent the toe link or something, and then pitted and was struggling pretty bad.

“I don’t know which tire shredded, if it was left-rear or right-rear, but a tire shredded, and I spun into Turn 3. Hate that my mistake, not even really trying hard at all, cost us a race. Just a little bit frustrated with myself right now.”
