Next weekend is going to be pretty hectic for Kyle Larson, who is set to compete in the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600.
Both the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 will take place on May 25. Larson can't afford to skip the latter since NASCAR announced that Cup Series drivers who need a non-medical waiver will lose their playoff points for the entire season.
With that said, Larson is hoping to successfully run the Memorial Day "Double" next weekend. In order for that to happen, he'll have to make sure his cars are in great shape. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he talked about his opening practice for the Indy 500.
As of now, Larson is feeling pretty good about his chances at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
"Our day was good, kinda took it easy to start in clean air and made sure our balance was comfortable — which it was — so I was happy with that," Larson said, via NASCAR. "There at the end finally got in some traffic and as normal had some understeer. Happy with the first day, nice smooth day. Good place to start from."
Larson's preparation for the Indy 500 will obviously cut in to his preparation for this weekend's NASCAR All-Star Race. He addressed that during his media availability.
Larson admit that he won't do much preparation for the All-Star Race. To be fair, he has a lot of trust in his team.
"It's nice that we're so well organized over there that I can completely shut myself off from them for a handful of days," Larson said.
At the very least, Larson will have a conversation with his crew chief, Cliff Daniels.
NASCAR fans probably won't get on Larson's case if he doesn't give it his all during the All-Star Race, especially after he won last Sunday's race at Kansas.
