For the first time in 2025, Layne Riggs wins in the NASCAR Truck Series. A late issue for Corey Heim gave Riggs the opportunity. These two have gone back and forth at times this season, and looking at the championship battle later this season, it could be the next chapter in this budding rivalry.
Layne Riggs hadn’t won yet this season. That was clearly the one thing missing from their otherwise solid year. When the opportunity presented itself, he stepped up and took it.
The end of this race unfolded only how a Truck Series race could. Heim inexplicably had a flat going into a restart after Jake Garcia wrecked. Then, Carson Hocevar was black flagged for a restart violation. Riggs was there to take the lead late and win his first race of the season.

This race ended up falling into Riggs’ hands. He was fast all day. Earlier in the afternoon, he won his first career pole award. So, we knew he was going to have a good finish. After the caution for Jake Garcia’s wreck, it looked like it would be a Riggs vs. Heim vs. Hocevar showdown. Then, in the blink of an eye, Riggs was the last man standing, it seemed.
There was enough time for Layne Riggs to also run the fastest lap of the race as he took the lead late. Once he was able to get into clean air, his truck took off. Tanner Gray and Kaden Honeycutt needed an overtime restart to really challenge for the win late.
The last sequence of this race was wild. We had what we thought was going to be another Corey Heim win. He swept the stages and won the Pocono race in 2024. It appeared to be a repeat of that, this time around.
Grant Enfinger and Ben Rhodes got into each other to cause a multi-truck wreck and caution. Then Jake Garcia wrecked soon after the restart. From there, Heim gets a right rear flat after dominating the race. Hocevar moved up to Heim’s position, and was correct to do so. However, he assumed the role of the control truck and commanded the restart. That was where the penalty came from.
Hocevar pleaded to his team to argue on his behalf. Still, he took the penalty and went down pit road to serve his time. It was a Riggs-Heim restart, then a Riggs-Hocevar restart. Before you knew it, Riggs was four seconds up on Gray for the lead and driving away. It happened so quickly.
The Truck Series can be so chaotic, especially when there is a late caution. Drivers are so aggressive, and it leads to more mistakes on the track. Layne Riggs kept a cool head and benefited from a good amount of luck. But when the race fell in his hands, he didn’t fumble it. Sometimes, that’s all it takes in NASCAR.
