Leigh Diffey coins new nickname for Carson Hocevar during NASCAR Iowa Corn 350

First race of the season for NBC and Leigh Diffey has thrown out a new nickname for Carson Hocevar already. No longer will the young NASCAR troublemaker be known by his regular name – he is now: Hurricane Hocevar.

The “Hurricane” is a pretty good way to describe Carson Hocevar. When he is on the track and has a fast car, he will run over anyone to get that next spot towards the front.

Hocevar is racing well right now, early in the race. As he popped into the picture near the top five, Diffey let out his new moniker. “Here comes the Hurricane!”

We all know that Carson Hocevar can be a wrecking ball of sorts. Just ask Ricky Stenhouse Jr.! If Leigh Diffey wants to stick with the nickname, I think it is a good one. Maybe Chili’s can come up with a Hocevar Hurricane cocktail or something for him to advertise on his car.

For now, Hocevar is running a good race. He is in great position to run up front all day if his car holds up and he makes the right decisions. Of course, that seems to be Hocevar’s biggest issue on the track, making the right decisions.

This would be an impressive performance from Hocevar if he holds on throughout the day. A top-10 at Iowa would say a lot about his skill behind the wheel. This track challenges drivers, is high-speed, and passing is possible but not easy.

Carson Hocevar looking for first win

With his points situation, Carson Hocevar is going to have to win a race in order to make the NASCAR Playoffs in his second season in the Cup Series. He has been close a couple of times and today looks like a possible opporutnity as well.

Hocevar has the talent. That’s the thing everyone talks about is his speed and raw ability to get the car to go fast. But there are the little things that he still has to work on. He has to be patient today and let the track come to him. His car will need adjustments to contend for the lead.

Even getting a top-five finish would be major. Spire Motorsports is having a decent day early on with Justin Haley just outside of the top-10 in the second stage. If that organization can get a pair of top-10s or even all three cars up there, that would be a big success.

Iowa Speedway is a tough track. We are going to see it change throughout the race. From there, it will be whoever has made the right adjustments that wins the race.
