With NASCAR production day here, Martin Truex Jr. has finally come out of his offseason hibernation to start the year. In fact, he’s coming out of the gate swinging by acting like Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a great video from Joe Gibbs Racing.

There are some folks at JGR that are pretty talented on social media. These videos, reenacting the booth call from iconic finishes, have taken NASCAR Twitter/X by storm. Hearing these classic calls again but with a comedic twist on the recreation is both hilarious and exciting.

I never thought they would get Martin Truex Jr. to do one though. It’s not like Truex had to dress up much for his Dale Jr. impression. All he really had to do was put on his glasses, and I’m not convinced they aren’t his!

Check out the video, where Martin Truex Jr. and the JGR team recreate the call from the 2018 Chicagoland finish between Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson.

The timing. The emotion. That guy in the background doing the Rubix cube and finishing up with Jeff Burton’s disbelief. It’s all perfect. Martin Truex Jr. did his job and made for a very convincing Dale Jr., if you ask me.

Martin Truex Jr. back for more in 2024

Last season was the resurgence of Truex and the No. 19 team. The first year of the Next Gen car threw that group for a loop. In year two, they began to figure things out. I think on short tracks and road courses, the 19-car is always a threat to win.

Going from winless to multiple wins and a regular season championship is no easy task. That team turned things around and the veteran driver showed that his 2022 season was mostly fluke than fall off.

Martin Truex Jr. is still one of the best drivers in the Cup Series. His 2023 run in the playoffs was thrown off track with mistakes, bad luck, and mechanical issues. It was like the postseason started and his car fell apart.

So, in 2024, Joe Gibbs Racing will focus on getting Truex Jr. back to the playoffs. When he’s in it, he can win it. They just have to keep him in it long enough to give him a chance.

What are your expectations for Truex in the new season? Will he pick up where he left off in 2023 with wins and a strong case for the best driver of the year?
