Prominent NASCAR announcer and legendary driver Kevin Harvick is the latest person to challenge Joey Logano's rant against teammate Austin Cindric.
Cindric took home the checkered flag at the Jack Link's 500 at Talladega on Sunday, but Logano was not happy with his fellow Team Penske driver during the race. Specifically, Logano took exception to what he believed was Cindric slowing down late in Stage 2, allowing Bubba Wallace to win the stage.
In frustration, Logano unleashed a profane tirade over his radio, which Jeff Gluck of The Athletic shared the contents of on social media.
"Way to go Austin, way to go, you dumb f--k!" Logano said. "Way to f-----g go. What a stupid s--t. You just gave it to him. Gave a Toyota a stage win. Nice job. Way to go. What a dumbass. Put that in the book again."
Logano has taken criticism from a variety of places for his comments, including MLB legend Chipper Jones.
Harvick also voiced his disapproval on the latest episode of his "Happy Hour" podcast.
“I do disagree with Joey’s assessment of that,” Harvick stated. “It looked to me like there was so much momentum going forward that he had to pop out of line and put himself, you know, in a spot where he wasn’t just going to ram into the back of the No. 22. So, I felt like there were a couple cars behind him pushing, and a lot of times what happens in that scenario is, if you just try to hit the car in front of you, then it stacks you up, and you’re already being pushed, then sometimes it spits you out and spins you out. So, it’s really kind of 50-50, as to whether you know that gripe from Joey is legitimate.
“I think, from a driver standpoint, you always feel like you’re getting hung out like your teammate, or he could’ve helped you. You have this plan that’s laid out before the race with the manufacturers, and you’re expecting him to push you. I think there was more to it than just being able to push. But Joey definitely went off. I was a little surprised that he went off on the radio like that.”
For what it's worth, Logano said he and Cindric have spoken about the incident and hashed things out.
“Austin and I talked about it. We’ve got to move forward. That’s what it is," Logano said. "I explained my side. He understood. We move on. That’s pretty much all there is to it. There’s no sense in airing our dirty laundry and airing out what the actual rules are because that’s private information that doesn’t need to be out to everybody. But the facts are that what we set in place wasn’t happening and that’s why I got frustrated. Like I said, we talked about it and we moved on.”
The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series resumes Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway.
