NASCAR Cup Series Race Results from Homestead, Kyle Larson Wins

Kyle Larson breaks the “B” streak and wins in Homestead-Miami Speedway.

After the NASCAR Cup Series season started with five races won by a driver whose last name started with the letter B, Larson spoiled the streak by passing teammate Alex Bowman coming to six laps left.

“I felt like if I could just keep pressure on Alex, I would hope that he made a mistake,” Larson told Fox Sports during his frontstretch celebration after winning the Straight Talk Wireless 400. “He caught the wall there, and I got by him easier than I expected to.

“Still had to work hard, though. My balance once I got in clean air was really loose, just like those guys were. So hats off to the whole team…”

The victory makes him the third winningest driver at Hendrick Motorsports, and the all-time winner in the Next Gen Car with 14 first place finishes since 2022.

Bowman was able to fight back to within two tenths of a second on Larson but was not able to get alongside to reclaim the lead. The No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro would have to settle for second, but not without a boost of confidence after starting on pole and being up front all day.

“I guess I choked that one away,” Bowman admitted. “Just burned my stuff up. Saw [Larson] coming, so moved around a little bit. Not when he passed me, but the time before that I hit it hard with the right front and ended up just bending something enough that I lost a lot of right front feel and then I pulled it off the wall too far right there and ended up hitting the fence pretty bad.

So I hate that for this Ally 48 group. They deserve better than that. Just a couple of mistakes there. I felt like we were okay all day. That last run was the best we were.”

Bubba Wallace set the fastest lap of the race for an extra championship point. To him, it was simply a day about execution and “showing up with speed.”

“It was really good,” reflected Wallace. “We showed up here in Miami and had speed. That's the first box you want to check. We all know when you are a race car driver, you want to show up and be competitive. We were that.”

Chase Briscoe finished where he started in fourth, though it wasn’t as simple as that as he finished third in Stage 1, was outside the top 10 in Stage 2, and fought back into the top five at the end of the race. Denny Hamlin, who won Stage 2, finished fifth.

Christ Buescher claimed the sixth spot. AJ Allmendinger holds the best average finish at Homestead in the Next Gen Car and finishes seventh to further solidify that statistic. Last year’s winner Tyler Reddick was the eighth car to the checkered flag with Ryan Preece and Justin Haley rounding out the top 10 positions.

Shane Van Gisbergen was the highest finishing rookie over Riley Herbst, both finishing 32nd and 33rd respectively.

Ryan Blaney led the most laps with 124, including the Stage 1 victory, but blew the engine coming out of Turn 4 on Lap 207. It would be his third consecutive DNF, the first time in his Cup Series career.

“We’ll continue to keep fighting,” said Blaney. “I appreciate the 12 guys for just giving me a hot rod. It was an incredibly, incredibly fast race car today. We’ll keep our heads up. It’s just one of those things where it’s not really going our way right now, but the good news is we’re bringing fast cars and that’s all you can ask for. We’ll keep on moving.”

The series will move on to the first short track of the season, Martinsville Speedway. The green flag of the Cook Out 400 is scheduled to wave at 3 p.m. ET on Mar. 30 on FS1, MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
