Despite the wildfire burning in Miami-Dade County, Fla., the NASCAR races scheduled for this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway remain scheduled — for now, at least.
On Thursday, the City of Homestead released an update on the fire, which included a statement on the NASCAR races scheduled at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend.

Emergency teams continue monitoring the fire. Health: Limit outdoor exposure, keep windows closed. Traffic: US 1 closing intermittently, Card Sound Road closed. Power: Repairs underway. Safety:Fire 30% contained. NASCAR: Events remain on schedule. pic.twitter.com/i8j4hZx84Q
The fire in Miami-Dade County has burned 24,000 acres and is 30 percent contained.
The safety of fans and team members at the track would be the primary concern should the races be held, with several individual fires continuing to burn just three miles southwest of Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The first on-track activity of the weekend — NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice — is scheduled for 3:35 p.m. ET on Friday. The Truck Series is expected to qualify at 4:40 p.m. ET on Friday afternoon and race at 8 p.m. ET on Friday evening.
Saturday's slate of track activity includes NASCAR Xfinity Series practice, (10:30 a.m. ET) NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying, (11:35 a.m. ET) NASCAR Cup Series practice, (1:05 p.m. ET) NASCAR Cup Series qualifying (2:10 p.m. ET) and the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at 4 p.m. ET.
Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race will go green shortly after 4 p.m. ET.
A postponement of the weekend's races wouldn't be entirely unprecedented. In 1998, the Pepsi 400 at Daytona — the first-ever race at Daytona run under the lights — was postponed from its traditional Fourth of July date to October due to wildfires in central Florida that closed down I-95.
That postponement announcement was made just five hours before the practice was slated to start on Thursday, July 2, meaning NASCAR could still have time to make scheduling decisions as more updates regarding the fires arise.
