The rain has shown up once again at Dover Motor Speedway and put the NASCAR Cup Series race on hold for the time being. We have not gone to a red flag at the moment, but could see a stoppage if the rain picks up.
Drivers were making decisions on whether to pit or not and then the caution came out. For a moment, Christopher Bell took the lead. NASCAR kept pit road open despite the rain at Dover. So, it appears officials expect this race to go green again.
NASCAR dealt with rain at Dover yesterday. Here’s hoping that the race continues and we get to see a great finish.
UPDATE: While the race has gone back to green, the rain could return at any moment. For the time being, we have Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell racing each other and the rain. Which one of them ends up out front when the race ends, by rain or the finish.
This Dover race has been interesting and exciting. Track position is major for everyone on the track. But there has been a bit of good action near the front. Passing in dirty air is very difficult, even on newer tires than the other cars.
Denny Hamlin is in a great position to win this race. Chase Elliott is there, too. This is going to be a great finish if we get there before the rain comes in.
Denny Hamlin sees himself winning this race, again. He has to avoid trouble and not get frustrated, though. If he gets too high or too low then it isn’t going to work. Having to be a weatherman today and a driver doesn’t make anything easier on these drivers, either.
We have a showdown between Hamlin and Christopher Bell late in this race. Whether it ends due to rain or due to the checkered flag remains to be seen.
This race could go under red flag for a while if more rain comes in before the finish. NASCAR will likely try to finish the entire length of the race if possible. It depends on how much it rains and if the track can get dry before 8:10 PM ET which is roughly when sunset is tonight.
