Ricky Stenhouse Jr. on parking in Kyle Busch pit box: ‘It was kind of spur of the moment’
Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was at an 11 on the 10 scale after getting put into the wall by Kyle Busch just two laps into this past Sunday’s NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Rather than head back to his hauler and call it a night, Stenhouse decided to park his No. 47 Chevrolet in Busch’s pit stall and climb up into the pit box to have words with the No. 8 team’s crew chief, Randall Burnett.

Asked on Corey LaJoie’s “Stacking Pennies” podcast Monday when he made the call to park in Busch’s pit stall, Stenhouse said it was “spur of the moment.”

“Well because he [Busch] does that all the time, right. He’s done that multiple times,” Stenhouse said. “… It was kind of spur of the moment. … I told Randall [Burnett], ‘Hey, nothing against y’all, I know y’all weren’t driving, but can you tell him over the radio that I’ll see him afterwards.'”

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. considers beef with Kyle Busch over with: ‘Feel like I’m past it’

Stenhouse’s frustration with Busch didn’t end there. Stuck in the infield with nowhere to go since North Wilkesboro doesn’t have any exit tunnels, Stenhouse vowed he would see Busch after the 200-lap exhibition came to an end. Stenhouse stayed true to his word, waiting for Busch outside his hauler. Once Busch arrived with a herd of media around him, it was on. The two exchanged words before Stenhouse threw a right hand at Busch, setting off a massive brawl between the two and their respective pit crews.

As the situation was being diffused and Stenhouse dragged away from the scene, he yelled, “I’ll wreck you at Charlotte,” to Busch. Busch responded to the comment, “Bring it. I don’t give a f***. I suck just as bad as you. Let’s go.”

Stenhouse has since gone back on that statement. He told LaJoie that he will not wreck Busch during this Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600.

“I told him I might crash him at Charlotte — I’m not gonna crash him at Charlotte,” Stenhouse said. “Then that just keeps it going, right. So, as far as my end goes, I feel like I’m past it.”

Stenhouse will instead turn his attention to Charlotte and a chance to get his season back on track. The JTG Daugherty Racing driver currently sits 26th in the points standings with two top 10s and one top-5 finish. His average finish through 13 races is 23rd.
