Rodney Childers volunteers for Kaulig Racing job after Chris Rice staff comments

Could Rodney Childers find himself back in NASCAR soon? Perhaps Kaulig Racing’s new Ram Truck Series team can do it. Childers has been spending his time enjoying life at home. He’s also been helping young drivers like Keelan Harvick and Landen Lewis in the CARS Tour.

Kaulig Racing is launching the Kaulig Trucks team in 2026. They will field five trucks for Ram. The expectation is to buy trucks from Spire Motorsports and likely downsize the Xfinity Series program.

When you think about how well the Truck Series trucks line up with the Cup Series cars now, it makes sense. Time and again, we hear about how the Xfinity Series cars are nothing like the Cup cars, and learning from them only does so much.

With the news that Kaulig Racing is the new home of Ram Trucks in NASCAR, Rodney Childers had his interests piqued.

“I know some people needing a good job,” Childers said in reply to a tweet from Matt Weaver of Motorsport. So, Childers to Kaulig?

It doesn’t stop there, either. Corey LaJoie replied to the Childers tweet. He said, “I’ve got a driver/cc [crew chief] pairing idea.” Now that would be interesting.

Could we see Childers and LaJoie help establish the flagship Ram Trucks team? It would be a lot of fun to see, and this deal sets Kaulig up well for whenever Stellantis eventually starts a Cup Series program for Dodge or another one of its brands.

Kaulig and Ram will likely both want veterans and young talent in the program. Starting a pipeline for talent early is going to be a major deal if the future Cup Series program has any chance of long-term survival.

Now, here is where things gets tough. Kaulig Racing is going to continue to race Chevrolet cars in the Cup and Xfinity Series. They are doing this on the campus of Richard Childress Racing in Welcome, North Carolina. So, how does Chevy feel about that?

Clearly, there will have to be differences in how the Chevy and Ram programs operate. They won’t be able to have much crossover. Neither manufacturer wants to have data or information taken to the other, even if they are competing in different series at the moment.

Five teams is a lot. That is like Tricon or ThorSport. To put that many trucks on the track weekly and be competitive, a lot has to happen between now and Daytona 2026. Let’s see how Ram Trucks and Kaulig Racing are able to put this program together.
