Safety car wrecks hard hours before Rolex 24 at Daytona

If this is any indication of how the Rolex 24 at Daytona is going to go then we’re in for quite a race. The safety car has already wrecked. Hours before the 24-hour race, the safety car wrecked during what I assume were early morning hot laps. Seems like something that would happen at a NASCAR race.

Fans at the track saw the incident happen and were able to grab photos of the wrecked vehicle after the fact. It is unclear how the incident happened, but we do know one thing, they need a backup safety car after this.

The Rolex 24 at Daytona is set to begin at 1:40 PM EST. Folks at home can watch on Peacock for coverage of the entire 24-hour race.

You will not see this car at any point, though.

Here is another look of the wrecked car. It is unfortunate for this to happen at the beginning of the day. Let’s hope we have a clean 24 hours and this isn’t a harbinger of what is to come.

Racing is back in Daytona and the last couple of weeks have been a lot of fun to keep up with. IMSA is a really interesting series that deserves to be highlighted. Even if it is for something silly like the safety car wrecking.

Everything from the Roar Before the 24 to the Michelin Pilot Challenge and Mazda MX-5 Cup have been great. There’s nothing like racing at Daytona and we are about to see one of the best events of the year this weekend.

Rolex 24 at Daytona set to begin

In just over two hours, the Rolex 24 at Daytona will go green and we will see a number of drivers and teams racing for various classes. There are five different classes in the 24-hour race including Prototype, LMP2, LMP3, GTLM, and GTD.

If you are into efficiency and technology and the cutting edge in racing, then Prototypes are probably your thing. The LMP classes are also these slick and different-looking cars.

If you’re more into sports cars, then GTLM and GTD are more your thing. These cars are going to look more like what you can buy at high-end dealerships but with more racing flair to them. Big spoilers, wings, and other aerodynamic bits and pieces to make it suitable for a 24-hour race.
