'Someone pee-peed in the Goodyear rubber mixture,' Denny Hamlin comes up with hilarious analogy to explain grip issue at Bristol
Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin is known for his infamous one-liners and the ones he came up with to explain the grip issue during the Bristole Cup race qualifying was absolutely funny. Drivers found it hard to keep the car in their control after new resin that was put on the track ahead of the race proved to be massive challenge.

Denny Hamlin, while talking to Fox Sports 1 after the qualifying pointed out that the good year tire mixture might be one to blame for the incidents. He used the analogy of someone peeing on it to explain it. While it was challenging to navigate because of the resin, Hamlin admitted that he also found it as an enjoyable experience.

I think someone pee-peed in the Goodyear rubber mixture I’m not really sure, but it’s definitely really different. It’s kind of enjoyable because everyone is so out in left field right now. This is certainly different, to be the same tire. I’m not sure if the mixture of the resin or [inaudible], it’s thrown all of us for a loop here in the short-term. Hamlin told FS1.

Multiple drivers on the track, had different opinion about but at the end of the day everyone was able to finish their flying laps and score good qualifying times. Reigning champion Ryan Blaney was able to secure the pole position while Denny Hamlin was also able to secure a start in the top-10.

Denny Hamlin applauds the positive change to Bristol track walls

The walls of the Bristol Motor Speedway was changed to black and red, instead of old full black. Hamlin sees this as a positive change for the drivers. He pointed out that this move would help drivers to race more closer to the wall as now they have a better view of the track because of it.

The black walls were difficult to see from the driver’s standpoint, especially at night. I always liked colored walls, so I think red and white is a good change. And certainly anything that kind of brings us back to that is good and that’s super helpful for the visuals for the drivers as well. The more we see the walls, of course, we’re going to get closer. Hamlin said.

Denny Hamlin is coming to Bristol determined to secure his maiden win of the 2024 season. He has been having a tough spell since winning the un-official season opener at LA. The Toyota’s were dominant last weekend at Phoenix, hence Hamlin would be hoping to use the momentum gained from last week to his advantage.
