Momentum is firmly on the side of Spire Motorsports at the moment.
After Carson Hocevar earned his first career NASCAR Cup Series win at Talladega on April 26, he not only won Friday's Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway but also won the pole for Sunday's Cup Series race.
Hocevar's Spire teammate, Daniel Suarez, qualified second, giving Spire a front-row lockout for the Wurth 400. And while it was not smooth sailing for all 400 miles, both drivers came home in the top 10 at the race's end.
Suarez and Hocevar finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with Hocevar sitting sixth in the series standings through 11 races and Suarez holding steady in 14th.
"The entire weekend was a rollercoaster for us," Suarez told Fox Sports. "We qualified very well, obviously, then at the start of the race [the car] was very bad. Wasn't pretty at first, but we got it right. All in all, a good day for us. The potential is there."
Hocevar led early as Suarez dropped like a rock, but both drivers' cars eventually evened out as the race went on.
"It was a good run for everybody at Spire," Hocevar said. "It was great for us. We led a lot of laps, ran up front, finished second in Stage 1. Just fun to run good after last week and put ourselves sixth in points. That's really strong for us."
The third Spire entry, driven by veteran Michael McDowell, struggled on Sunday, finishing 27th. McDowell, the 2021 Daytona 500 champion, is only 23rd in points.
