'There's Still A Lot Up in The Air': Daniel Suarez Addresses Cup Series Contract Situation

NASCAR Silly Season always seems to take a different path each year. Over the years, we’ve seen drivers sign contract extensions with their current team early in the year avoiding any uncertainty. Take this year for example, with Hendrick Motorsports locking in rising star William Byron to a long-term deal that has Byron driving the No. 24 through the 2029 season.

Unfortunately on the flip side of that coin, drivers that are underperforming with their current organizations and fail to live up to the hype run the risk of being lost in the shuffle of drivers swapping rides from season to season.

In an interview with Dale Earnhardt Jr. on this week's episode of "The Dale Jr. Download," Trackhouse Racing’s Daniel Suarez expressed some of his concerns as contract talks are still ongoing to sign a new deal for the 2026 season.

“It’s gonna be maybe in a few months,” Suarez said. "We’ll see what happens, there’s still a lot of things in the air right now.

“There is just some things that I’m just uncomfortable in a few areas, in a few things, but I love Trackhouse and I love this team. And this team for me, it's been my best home in the Cup Series. I want to have more success with this team and I want to see this team successful regardless if I am in it or not.”

Through 17 races this season, Suarez sits 27th in the Cup Series standings with one top five finish, scoring a runner-up finish at Las Vegas in March.

Suarez looks ahead to this weekend’s race at the EchoPark Speedway (formerly Atlanta Motor Speedway) to turn his year around and score his first win of 2025. Live coverage begins Saturday, June 28 at 7 p.m. ET on TNT.
