NASCAR fans received devastating news Wednesday about former Cup Series owner Larry McClure.

From 1983-2012, Larry McClure co-operated Morgan McClure Motorsports along with Tim Morgan and Jerry McClure. His team won the Daytona 500 three times during that stretch. In addition to being Cup Series co-owners, McClure and Morgan had several car dealerships in Southwest Virginia.

On Wednesday afternoon, Larry McClure's family confirmed that he passed away.

"The family of Larry A. McClure, former co-owner of Morgan McClure Motorsports, announces with great sorrow his passing on Wednesday, June 25 at Johnston memorial hospital in Abingdon, Virginia," the family's statement read. "We would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time."

Immediately after this statement was released, NASCAR fans and drivers posted tributes to McClure on social media.

"My heart hurts finding out Larry McClure passed away," Sterling Marlin wrote on X. "He gave me a fast race car & back to back Daytona 500s. He was innovative, smart and a hell of a guy. Glad i got to see him last year. gonna miss him."

ESPN's Ryan McGee said, "Godspeed Larry McClure. I saw him at the airport not too long ago and introduced him to a friend as 'This here is the man who owned the slickest looking bullet that ever cut through Daytona.' And he said 'Hi, I'm Larry, and he's damn right.'"

"RIP to Larry McClure, came into the sport when I first started watching and had a really good run," one fan said.

"I send my deepest condolences to the family of Larry McClure. Many years ago I went to Chicagoland with one car and one engine. My engine blew in practice. He gave me an engine to run. He said, 'If you out qualify my car, you can race that engine for free.' RIP," Hermie Sadler wrote.

There's no question McClure will be remembered for years to come.

Our thoughts are with McClure's loved ones.
