This is it. The finale for the NASCAR In-Season Tournament is here, and Ty Dillon is ready to cash that $1,000,000 check. Dillon will have to go up against Ty Gibbs today if he hopes to cap off the epic Cinderella run that he has been on this summer.
You can say Ty Dillon has had some luck. However, he’s taken down drivers like Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Alex Bowman, and John Hunter Nemechek. It is his best four-race stretch of the season and potentially his career.
However, Ty Gibbs has been really good the last three races. P2, P7, and P5 or Gibbs on his way to the finals. But if it comes down to it, what is Dillon willing to do to get his Kaulig Racing team that $1,000,000 payday?
Ty Dillon was asked what his limits are when it comes to winning this tournament, and he was clear about his intentions. What is Dillon willing to do? “Ask Alex Bowman,” he said, via Steven Taranto of CBS Sports.
For those unfamiliar, Dillon only made it this far by beating Bowman at Sonoma. He did it with a bump and run in Turn 11 on the last lap. So, it’s clear that Dillon isn’t afraid to get physical to get by in this challenge. With only one more race before he reaches his goal, from last-seed to tournament champion, the 10 car will be doing all it can to secure the win.
To his credit, Ty Dillon has an Xfinity Series win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He has also raced on the oval many more times than Ty Gibbs has. In fact, last year’s Brickyard 400 was Gibbs’ first ever race on the oval at Indy.
So, experience favors Dillon. Talent, equipment, and results say that Gibbs is the favorite today, though. With how fast he has been in recent weeks, I wouldn’t put it past Gibbs to have another top-10 performance and run away with the $1,000,000.
Hell, there is an easy argument to be made that Ty Gibbs might be ready to win a race. That would be one heck of a way to cap off a weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Last year’s race didn’t go according to plan, with Gibbs P23 at the end.
Ty Dillon has one goal, win the In-Season Tournament. Only one driver stands between him and a big payday.
