Ty Gibbs wins Xfinity Series pole award over Kyle Busch at Charlotte
Mandatory Credit: Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

In his second start in the NASCAR Xfinity Series this season, Ty Gibbs locked up the pole award over Kyle Busch at Charlotte. Gibbs was a last-minute addition to that No. 20 car, Aric Almirola was originally scheduled for this race.

Both Ty Gibbs and Kyle Busch were in a class of their own today in qualifying. These Xfinity Series drivers are really talented, but qualifying is a different beast. Especially when you have two Cup drivers in JGR and RCR equipment.

It looked like Rowdy was going to run away with the pole, but Gibbs popped up at the last minute. First pole award for Gibbs since Watkins Glen last year.

With how fast Ty Gibbs and Kyle Busch were, it’s easy to forget that Chase Elliott is in this field as well. He qualified P30, unfortunately. That just means fans will get a chance to see him move through the field on Saturday in the 17 car.

For Gibbs, this is a good one-off. It is also his first time ever in the No. 20 car. That car has made a lot of history for the Gibbs family over the years. Will Ty make more this weekend?

On the Cup Series side of things, Gibbs has four top-5s and three more top-10 finishes. He had a slump between COTA and Darlington. Now he’s back at it and ready to go at Charlotte in Xfinity and Cup.

Ty Gibbs beats Kyle Busch in qualifying

Memorial Day Weekend is a great time for race fans. The entire month of May is full of great racing, Indy 500 festivities, All-Star Race for NASCAR, Coca-Cola 600 – what more could you want as a fan of motorsports?

Ty Gibbs has a great start so far to the weekend. Gibbs has yet to win a Cup Series pole award, and that is very interesting. He has been so close, but always gets beat at the very end. Toyota and JGR are really good at qualifying, so Gibbs’ time is coming.

As for Rowdy, I think the Xfinity Series field should be worried. Busch is one of the best to ever do it. He has more than 100 wins in the series! Racing for RCR for the first time in this series, who already have two very fast teams on a full-time basis – this is going to be a fun performance.

Things are going down tomorrow afternoon. 1 PM EST on FOX. Ty Gibbs and Kyle Busch are on the front row and it should be another exciting Xfinity Series race this NASCAR weekend.
