Tyler Reddick shows off his ‘Tim Richmond mustache’ to complete throwback look at Darlington

This weekend at Darlington, Tyler Reddick is sporting a Tim Richmond throwback on his car, and on his upper lip. The NASCAR driver took his throwback duties seriously this year and even tried to replicate Richmond’s look.

Earlier this week, Tyler Reddick teased the new stache in a video showing his family’s reaction to it. They were not fans. For the effort, and the fact he did it himself, he really didn’t do a terrible job.

Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports talked to Reddick about the stache and even judged it for him. Bob, the historian of the sport that he is, was honest – it’s not an exact match.

Tyler Reddick usually sports a full beard, it’s what his fiance prefers, he says. But for this weekend he had to go all-in and try to match Tim Richmond’s look. Even his firesuit is a throwback design to match his car.

This is a race that Reddick looks forward to, and it’s not just about the paint schemes. He is looking forward to Darlington because he believes it is an opportunity to win. Reddick

Since the Next Gen car was introduced, Reddick has finished P2 twice and has another top-three finish as well in that time. He has qualified in the top-10 in each of the last six races at The Lady in Black.

Last week at Kansas wasn’t what 23XI Racing wanted for either of their drivers. It was one of those races where Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick had to make the most of what they had. This week at Darlington they don’t want the same thing to happen.

Qualifying will be important. Track position is so valuable in the first stage. If you can get into the top-10 of top-5 then you can almost bet on pulling in stage points. 23XI needs to have clean pit stops and clean entries and exits to pit road.

Penalties and slow stops sink drivers every week. Good pit stops and clean races give drivers good finishes who maybe didn’t earn it on speed alone. That is just how the Next Gen game is played.

Tyler Reddick has the look, he has the car – but does he have the speed this week? After lacking it at Kansas, a repeat would be detrimental to the 23 and 45’s chances of picking up a win in this summer stretch.
