Motorsport has always been dangerous. No matter the championship, drivers are just inches away from disaster as they risk their lives every time they get inside the cockpit. This is even the case in the ARCA Menards Series. 17-year-old Brent Crews learnt this the hard way after his car erupted in flames at Dover.

Crews is one of the most promising talents in the junior category. The 17-year-old drives for the covered Joe Gibbs Racing in the ARCA Menards Series part-time alongside a role in NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck Series for Tricon Garage. The Toyota driver had a decent start to the ARCA race in Dover, potentially being in contention for the victory. Unfortunately, disaster struck quite early on, ruining his chances for the weekend.

Dover is one of the most difficult tracks in ARCA Menards Series. It is often labeled the ‘monster mile’ as it pushes drivers to the limit. Around Lap 49 of the race, Crews lost control as he tried to make his way through a turn. The No. 18 car slid into the barriers. Crews’ car instantly caught flame as it continued to slide across the circuit. Certainly a frightening sight.

Brent Crews became nothing more than a sitting duck afterwards, hoping for the car to come to a standstill. The race was red-flagged instantly to avoid further trouble. His vehicle was recovered by officials and brought back to pit road once the fire was put out.

Brent Crews ‘freaked out’ over Dover crash

It is never easy for a driver to suffer a massive wreck. Though, the situation becomes much worse if the car catches fire. For a budding star like Brent Crews, this would’ve shaken him on the inside. Luckily, the 17-year-old was okay once he made his way back to the garage.

Crews was relieved to be alright despite his car being in flames. The JGR driver thanked the lord for ensuring that he could return in one piece. He highlighted that every racecar driver faces a dangerous situation once or twice every season, reminding them of what is at stake.

Brent Crews confessed that he did freak out inside the cockpit right after the crash. He thanked his entire team for supporting him every weekend and providing him a quick car. The NASCAR Truck Series star would’ve likely apologized to his crew for the wreck when he got back to pit road.

Just wanna thank the good lord above for keeping me safe. That was super scary and I feel like we’re tested about every year, once or twice. If we’re race car drivers, now is the moment, that freak me out. So, I’m glad I’m okay and I just wanna thank the good lord above for keeping me safe and I just can’t thank the Joe Gibbs crew enough for building me a superfast racecar.

Brent Crews told @NASCARONFOX/X

Certainly, Brent Crews’ wreck is a reminder to every racing driver, be it ARCA Menards Series or NASCAR. A single mistake could bring one close to disaster. However, this risk is what brings the adrenaline rush to drivers when they push the gas as the five red lights go out. It’s the danger that excites fans to tune in every race weekend.
