Watch: Denny Hamlin explains how he really feels about ‘brutal’ booing from his hometown fans at Richmond

Denny Hamlin is one of the most successful NASCAR drivers of his generation. The Joe Gibbs Racing veteran have scored 50 wins over the years in the Cup Series. Despite massive achievements, the Toyota driver is one of the most disliked or hated racer among NASCAR fans. Even the racing fans at his home track Richmond boos him.

Denny Hamlin has a long history of being booed by fans on various tracks. One of the major reasons for the negative reaction is his feuds between him and other drivers up and down the field which has tarnished his reputation among fans. Hamlin, ahead of the Bristol Cup race was asked about how he actually feels about the “brutal” booing coming from even his home crowd. Hamlin replied that he just ignore it as noise.

I just don't mind it, I really don't because it's just noise, its noise... A lot of it comes just with success as well. If you're a contender each and every week, you are going to get more noise, and typically you know I have had many altercations with really popular drivers, that just kind of feels it as well. You are just gonna have to live that life. Denny Hamlin said in a Bristol pre-race press conference

Hamlin explained why he receives such backlash due to the aforementioned reasons and he has gotten used to such treatment. Subsequently, the 43-year-old has aimed to do his talking on the track and not give emphasis to such instances. Now, the JGR driver has qualified third for the race in Bristol and is focused on converting it into a win on Sunday.

Denny Hamlin blames Phoenix Raceway layout for lack of overtakes last weekend

Hamlin has around two decades’ worth of experience racing in the premier series and has the wealth of experience only a few could match. Ahead of Bristol, Hamlin talked about why the race last week at Phoenix was not up to the standards.

The JGR driver explained that due to Phoenix Raceway’s short layout, passing is quite difficult. Subsequently, the chances of one driver leading the pack for a long time becomes a real possibility. This can ultimately reduce the entertainment around racing among fans.

I mean it’s — it’s just a difficult track to pass on. You know, and so it has been for quite some time. Richmond will be the same. I mean, it will. So we have to just understand that this is kind of what we have now, and let’s make the best of it. Denny Hamlin said in his Actions Detrimental podcast

The Toyota driver had claimed pole in last week’s race in Phoenix. But, his race quickly spiralled down after his spin mid-race which ultimately led him to finish P11. Hamlin later gave his views on how passing on-track in Phoenix is a mammoth task.
