It has now been a full calendar year since Kyle Larson last won a NASCAR Cup Series race, a statistic that feels almost impossible given his level of talent and speed.
Still, the defending Cup Series champion remains one of the most dangerous drivers in the garage. Larson has dealt with brutal luck at multiple tracks this season, whether it be late cautions, pit road issues or getting caught up in incidents outside his control. At times, the speed has still been there.
Part of the issue also falls on Hendrick Motorsports as a whole. The organization has not looked quite as dominant this year compared to recent seasons and will need to elevate its performance as the summer stretch approaches.
Larson has hardly stopped winning altogether. He already picked up victories this season in the Xfinity Series with JR Motorsports at O’Reilly Auto Parts Raceway Park and continues stacking dirt-track wins across the country. The missing piece now is getting back to Victory Lane on Sundays.
Few in the garage believe Larson’s slump will last forever. Drivers of his caliber usually find a way to break through eventually.
