William Byron explains how he handles playing fantasy football while racing on Sundays

While NASCAR Cup Series drivers like William Byron are racing on Sundays in the fall, it’s hard to keep up with the NFL season. However, that doesn’t stop drivers and teams from playing fantasy football among themselves.

It has its own challenges and difficulties. Setting your roster last minute on Sunday isn’t easy to do when you have to worry about racing. Still, there are ways to keep up with the league before and after races.

William Byron spoke with Matthew Berry of NBC Sports about his team’s fantasy league. They keep up as best as they can, at least Byron does.

The driver says he checks in on the first games of the afternoon, goes racing, and the first thing he does when he gets to his bus again is check on his team. At least these NASCAR teams get the Super Bowl off.

I feel like William Byron is a solid fantasy football player. He just seems like he would be the kind of team manager to hit the waiver wire hard, not afraid to make a big move or trade. He did say he talks a lot of trash.

William Byron ready for more in 2024

After a six-win season that saw him in the Championship 4 in Phoenix, William Byron is after more. Hendrick Motorsports might have three drivers now that are capable of winning five or more races in a season between Byron, Chase Elliott, and Kyle Larson.

Of course, Alex Bowman is always a playoff threat and capable of having his own breakout season at any time in that Hendrick equipment.

Byron was strong in 2023. He won on short tracks, at Phoenix early in the season, he won on intermediate tracks, and road courses. His season was nothing short of excellent, even if he didn’t come away with the championship in the end.

William Byron is a young driver. Just 26 years old going into this season. I think that we could see another year of dominant performances from Byron, but it will only be more difficult this season.

There are a lot of factors: new drivers like Shane van Gisbergen, a talented rookie class, minor changes to the schedule, and new bodies from Ford and Toyota this season while Chevy remains the same.

Will this season be just as good or even better than last year for Byron?
