Superspeedway racing can be inherently frustrating for everyone involved in NASCAR racing.
Cup Series playoff driver William Byron found out why on Sunday at the YellaWood 500.
Byron, a two-time Daytona 500 winner, has been on the fortunate end of last-lap chaos at drafting tracks. But that wasn't the case at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, as Byron's 2025 championship hopes took a huge hit after a last-lap spin took him from a potential top-five finish to a 25th-place result.

Byron spun off the front bumper of Carson Hocevar after Byron himself had spun Chris Buescher from the lead with two laps to go, which sent the race into NASCAR overtime.
That result also took Byron from potentially only being 10 points out of the fourth and final Championship 4 berth to 36 points out going into the penultimate race of the season at Martinsville Speedway on Oct. 26 — a race that Byron will need to win to make the Championship 4 for the third straight year.
"It's just the way that it goes, that part of things," Byron told NBC Sports after the race. "Just felt like I was in the right position there on the bottom lane, and we just couldn't get linked up off of (turn) 4 and those guys pushed past us. Just couldn't quite get the pushes to our way at the very end."
Byron is a two-time Martinsville winner, though he is yet to win in the fall at the famed half-mile venue.
