Entering the 2025-2026 NBA season, many were high on the New York Knicks’ chances to make the Finals. The hype grew even more when they won the NBA Cup. However, they have been plagued by inconsistencies from their players, especially guys like Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and Mikal Bridges.

And due to their struggles, questions about contention have arisen. Does this team have so much talent that it has now become a problem? Because at the end of the day, there’s only one basketball and Jalen Brunson, a shoot-first guard, is in charge of it. To add to their woes, a former pro has pointed out that Karl-Anthony Towns’ body language during recent team huddles is very telling.

“You see a guy that’s something is bothering him, something is wrong. You talk about the disconnect. I don’t know if KAT [Karl-Anthony Towns] wants to be there, to be honest. I think he’s had enough. Because you look at his body language is not good,” former NBA star-turned analyst, Charlie Villanueva deduced.

“I didn’t see that part, obviously, where they’re in the huddle, obviously, he’s upset. Obviously, something is bothering him; everybody else is together except for him. So, now all the fingers that right now is pointed at KAT right now,” he added.

The Knicks are not at the level they want to play at, considering that the regular season is winding down. They might finish the year with 50-plus wins, but for them, that’s quite a disappointment, considering that this should be the year to top their conference.

Karl-Anthony Towns’ Role With Knicks Hasn’t Been Established

It’s safe to say that Towns is having a down year. He’s not on par with his usual career numbers in his second year in New York. He has even admitted that he’s still figuring out what his true role is for the Knicks with the 2026 postseason fast approaching.

“I’m still trying to figure out where I could impact our team and winning the most,” Karl-Anthony Towns admitted in a recent interview.

Will he be shoved into a much more featured role in the playoffs? That’s highly unlikely, because opposing squads have the time to scout more intensively when the games matter more. The best he can do is establish his dominance as soon as he can. Preferably, before the playoffs.
