2024 NBA Draft: Alex Sarr Gets Compared to All-Star Big Man
Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

As we get closer to the 2024 NBA Draft, which professional player does projected No. 2 overall pick Alex Sarr compare to?

With the second overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards will be on the clock. It has been a rough go of it for the Wizards in recent years, as they are firmly in rebuild mode.

Luckily for the Wizards, the Lady Luck was on their side with the NBA Lottery and they will have a chance to add a top prospect to the roster. ESPN recently had them taking big man Alex Sarr with the pick. Also, ESPN gave him a solid draft comp to Jaren Jackson Jr. of the Memphis Grizzlies. Here’s what they had to say about Sarr.

Top 100 rank: No. 2 | Mock draft projection: No. 2 to Washington Wizards

High end: Jaren Jackson Jr.

Low end: Nic Claxton

The blueprint for Sarr’s role at the next level is something like Jackson, who gives Memphis high-quality spacing and elite paint protection while toggling between power forward and center. Sarr has a long way to go as a shooter to get to Jackson’s level, but that ceiling is within reach for him, with a huge, mobile frame at 7-foot-1 that makes him an excellent long-term prospect.

Seeing a comparison to Jaren Jackson Jr. is pretty nice for Sarr and the Wizards, as Jackson Jr. has become an outstanding player on both ends of the court in the NBA. Having a big man who can play both the 4 and the 5 while spacing the floor gives a team a lot of flexibility. Also, Jackson is an elite rim defender, which is key in the NBA nowadays.

While Alex Sarr is far from a finished product as of now, having a ceiling of Jackson Jr. is a good sign. If he can work on the 3-point game a bit more over the next few years, he will be an excellent big man in the league for a long time. And, a worthwhile No. 2 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
