2025 Mock Draft Projects Suns to Land Former 5-Star Recruit, G League Standout

While the Phoenix Suns failed to make the NBA Playoffs, there's probably part of them that are happy that the nightmare of a season has come to an end.

Many had high hopes for the Suns going into the season. While they were swept out of the playoffs the previous season, fans believed that having a true point guard like Tyus Jones alongside Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal would make things better.

However, that plan backfired, as the Suns finished 36-46 and 11th in the Western Conference.

2025 mock draft projects Suns to land former 5-star recruit

The Suns didn't waste much time once the offseason hit, parting ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer.

They've also been busy in the front office. They appointed Brian Gregory as the new general manager, while James Jones will step into a senior advisory role.

With a general manager now in place, the Suns can begin to decide on the long-term futures of their players.

While it's rumored that the Suns could look to trade Durant before the upcoming NBA Draft in hopes of acquiring a first-round pick, the Suns will, for now, target players they could select with the No. 52 pick.

In a mock draft by CBS Sports' Kyle Boone, he projects that the Suns will land Dink Pate of the G League Capitanes.

"A former five-star recruit, Pate eschewed college to go to the G League Ignite -- only for it to fold after his first season," wrote Boone. "Despite that, he's still flashed NBA talent with his big frame and playmaking, though he needs to continue adding to his frame and developing as a shooter."

At 6-foot-6, 200 lbs, Pate displays prototypical size at the position. He's a former five-star recruit who got offers from the University of Central Florida and Georgetown before opting to play in the G League.

Pate has a decent shooting stroke that pairs well with his athleticism, but will need to display the ability to knock it down at a more reliable rate in his next stop.
