25 Best NBA Players By Tiers (March 2024)
Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports

Continuing our series following our February 2024 rankings, it is time to list the 25 Best NBA Players By Tiers for the month of March. This tier system separates the best talents in the NBA from the rest, along with seeing some stars rise in the rankings due to their elite play. With the All-Star Break almost here, there has been some movement in the tier system.

The March 2024 rankings will show which two players are above the rest right now and see who is behind them. Remember, a player’s status is not considered but rather the performance and impact over a month based on stats, impact, and all-around play regarding team performance.

Tier 1

Nikola Jokic (Tier 1 in previous month - February)

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Tier 1 in previous month - February)

Luka Doncic (Tier 1 in previous month - February)

Nikola Jokic is the favorite for the MVP award, posting 26.0 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game on 58.2% from the field. The Serbian has managed to guide the Denver Nuggets to the top record in the West and is only getting better as an all-around player. The Nuggets are the biggest threat in the Western Conference this season, and Jokic is their driving force.

Gilgeous-Alexander is simply a wonderful talent, averaging 31.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He is one of the most unstoppable offensive players in the league and is even getting better defensively as well. The Thunder might not be regarded as highly as the Nuggets as a title contender, but Gilgeous-Alexander has been their driving force.

The final member of Tier 1 is Luka Doncic, the Slovenian superstar who is averaging 34.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game. The walking triple-double threat has dominated the court for so long that he seems like a 10-year veteran. Regardless of what happens with the Mavericks this season, Doncic will finish top-three in the MVP race.

Tier 2

Giannis Antetokounmpo (Tier 2 in previous month - February)

Jayson Tatum (Tier 2 in previous month - February)

Giannis Antetokounmpo is still one of the best players in the world, among the top five. No player in the top-five can defend multiple positions like Giannis can along with being a dominant offensive player. The Greek Freak is posting 30.8 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game which is a major reason why the Milwaukee Bucks are gunning for the NBA title.

Jayson Tatum is the best player on the Boston Celtics this season, a team that has the best record in the NBA. Tatum is one of the best offensive players in the league (27.0 PPG) and an improved leader, and his scoring is truly a joy to watch. He has also been a beneficiary of an elite duo featuring Jaylen Brown.

Tier 3

Kawhi Leonard (Tier 3 in previous month - February)

Kevin Durant (Tier 3 in previous month - February)

Devin Booker (Tier 3 in previous month - February)

Domantas Sabonis (Tier 3 in previous month - February)

Anthony Davis (Tier 4 in previous month - February)

Jaylen Brown (N/A in previous month - February)

Jalen Brunson (Tier 3 in previous month - February)

No one can deny how dominant Kawhi Leonard can be on both ends of the court as he is posting 23.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game while shooting a scintillating 42.6% from three. The Clippers have been on fire and look to be the second-most-likely team to be in the Western Conference Finals other than the Denver Nuggets, so hopefully Leonard stays healthy.

Kevin Durant’s offense has kept the Phoenix Suns in contention because he is averaging 28.5 points per game on nearly 50-40-90 shooting splits. The 35-year-old is not only an offensive superstar but an improved leader, an aspect of his that has come under scrutiny in recent seasons.

Devin Booker has been on fire since the turn of the year, and his scoring average sits firmly at 27.5 points per game so far. Booker’s production has been a blessing because the Suns have solely relied on Kevin Durant all season long and the forward has needed more help. Making his third All-Star Team, Booker is one of the best players in the world right now.

Domantas Sabonis might be one of the most underrated players in the NBA right now. Averaging 20.1 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game, Sabonis is a walking triple-double threat and the most impactful player for the Sacramento Kings right now. Alongside De’Aaron Fox, Sabonis has been a revelation.

Anthony Davis is another star who is having an excellent individual campaign despite an average team record, of 36-31. Davis has been dominant at times, posting 24.7 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game. We can’t deny he is having one of his best seasons individually.

Jaylen Brown is back to his best and has been on a tear. Posting 22.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, Brown has been a steady force for the Celtics, and dropping 37 points against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night proves that. Many criticized Brown for being overpaid to start the year but he is putting that criticism to rest.

Jalen Brunson needs to get his flowers even if the Knicks are one of the most underrated teams in the league. Posting 26.9 points and 6.6 assists per game, Brunson is on a tear offensively and the Knicks could grab the third spot in the East behind the Celtics and Bucks as a result. The Knicks just need Julius Randle healthy.

Tier 4

Tyrese Haliburton (Tier 3 in previous month - February)

Damian Lillard (Tier 4 in previous month - February)

Kyrie Irving (Tier 4 in previous month - February)

LeBron James (Tier 4 in previous month - February)

De’Aaron Fox (Tier 4 in previous month - February)

Anthony Edwards (Tier 4 in previous month - February)

Donovan Mitchell (Tier 3 in previous month - February)

Tyrese Haliburton is the player we knew he would become, posting 20.7 points and 11.4 assists per game meaning he is an entire offensive system behind the number-one-ranked offense in the league. However, he has dropped in levels since the All-Star break and there are concerns about his health which is why he has fallen to Tier 4.

Damian Lillard is one of the best point guards in the world, averaging 24.4 points and 6.8 assists per game on 35.2% shooting from three. He still was named an Eastern Conference All-Star starter because he is extremely popular and has the numbers backing him up, but he will be judged on how the Bucks do at the end of the year.

Kyrie Irving has actually made a positive difference for Dallas this season as his season averages of 25.2 points and 5.0 assists per game put the team in a playoff spot. The questions arise about Dallas’ team overall because we know what to expect from Kyrie and his superstar partner, Luka Doncic.

The King is still one of the 20 best players in the world despite being 39 years old. He is averaging 25.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game while shooting an incredible 40.3% from three. LeBron James needs more help from the Lakers crew not named Anthony Davis, because the Lakers won’t be in the mix for a championship otherwise.

De’Aaron Fox’s numbers have been solid this season as he is averaging 27.0 points and 5.6 assists per game as the driving force behind the Kings. Sabonis has been more dominant across the board but Fox is the go-to scorer on the team and is only getting better at 26 years old. Hopefully, the Kings can make a deeper playoff run this season.

Anthony Edwards might be receiving less love than he should, but there is simply too much competition in the NBA right now. He is a top-20 player in the world, but the player himself might feel like he is top-10. Averaging 26.4 points per game this season, it won’t be long before we start talking about Edwards as an MVP candidate.

Donovan Mitchell unfortunately misses out on an All-NBA Team selection due to the 65-game rule that a lot of stars are complaining about, and that slightly decreases his status in the league. The shooting guard missed seven straight games before dropping an unimpressive 14 points on his return, meaning he needs to climb back up the tiers although we won’t wash away his season as a whole.

Tier 5

Victor Wembanyama (N/A in previous month - February)

Paul George (Tier 5 in previous month - February)

Stephen Curry (Tier 5 in previous month - February)

Zion Williamson (Tier 5 in previous month - February)

Bam Adebayo (Tier 5 in previous month - February)

Trae Young (Tier 5 in previous month - February)

Just give Victor Wembanyama the Rookie of the Year trophy. He is dominant defensively, averaging 3.4 blocks per game, and is improving as an all-around scorer. The San Antonio Spurs have been a disaster and have really thrown the Frenchman under the bus, but expect better play from everybody next season.

Paul George yet again usurps James Harden in Tier 5 because his numbers look better. George is posting 22.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game on 39.6% from three this season and is the second-best player on the Clippers. George is also competing very hard on defense and the team continues to benefit from his play, with the playoffs in their sight.

Stephen Curry is still one of the best point guards in the world even if the Golden State Warriors are destined for the play-in tournament. Curry is not quite as dominant as he was during his MVP seasons, but his shooting is off the charts and the Warriors would be in the lottery if not for him. Let’s see if the Warriors can rebuild around Curry this summer.

The New Orleans Pelicans are playing solid basketball and Zion Williamson needs to get most of the credit for that. The big man is averaging 22.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this season on an impressive 57.8% from the floor. Keep an eye out for the Pelicans because they won’t simply settle for being pushovers in the West.

Bam Adebayo is the best performer on the Miami Heat this season and is immensely valuable to the team. Adebayo is posting 19.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game while being a contender for Defensive Player of the Year. As long as Adebayo plays at a high level, Miami has a chance to make a run in the East and we won’t be surprised by them pushing for the Finals anymore.

With so much competition at the guard spot in the NBA, we can’t kick Trae Young out of Tier 5. His numbers are elite and should not be done poorly by us just because he plays on a bad team. Posting 26.4 points and 10.8 assists per game this season, Young is doing everything he can to keep the Hawks afloat and in the play-in tournament.
