The rest of the 2024-25 NBA season will be all about securing the best draft positioning possible for the Toronto Raptors. Darko Rajakovic's group possesses the fifth-worst record in the entire NBA at the All-Star break, with a mark of 17-38.
The acquisition of Brandon Ingram confused some regarding the team's direction. However, there has been no indication of when or if the new Raptors star will even debut this season.
The strength of schedule in the second half will be working against the Raptors too. They will face the easiest slate of teams of any franchise for their remaining fixtures.
Should they slip up a couple of spots in the lottery rankings as a result, there are a couple of players who could be strong additions outside the top five for the Raptors.
Egor Demin
Egor Demin has a case for being one of the top passers in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft. The oversized guard has posted a solid campaign at BYU so far.
Demin has averaged 10.8 points, 5.5 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 27.9 minutes per game. The concern with the BYU guard would be his efficiency.
There were question marks about Demin's shooting heading into this NCAA season. After some initial promise, the Russian guard has wavered in his production. Demin is shooting 42.2 percent from the field and 27.6 percent from 3-point.
The Raptors would need to feel comfortable about their ability to fix his jumper. However, they have certainly proven capable of that feat, notable by their work with a player like Ochai Agbaji.
Khaman Maluach
This one is simple. Khaman Maluach has been the top center prospect in the 2025 NBA Draft for its entirety. While the South Sudanese center is still fairly raw, Maluach could be afforded some time to play behind Jakob Poeltl and polish up his game, while hopefully tapping into his considerable potential in the process.
Kasparas Jakucionis
Kasparas Jakucionis has steadily climbed up draft boards throughout his freshman campaign. The Illinois guard has shown plenty of promise.
Jakucionis is averaging 15.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists this season. The 18-year-old is proving himself to be a capable slasher, floor general, and shot-maker.
The draft range for Jakucionis is somewhat unclear. Some have him as high as third, behind Cooper Flagg and Dylan Harper. The talented offensive player would certainly be someone who is capable of challenging for the lead guard position in Toronto within a few seasons.
