The Phoenix Suns have had a terrible season thus far and they may make some major changes to their roster in the offseason.
After they were expected to compete near the top of the Western Conference standings entering the season, the Suns are instead fighting for their playoff lives. They currently sit 11th in the West standings with a 27-32 record, which has them three and a half games behind the Sacramento Kings for the final Play-In spot.
Because of their struggles, the Suns are expected to make some major roster changes in the offseason, which could see them trade away both Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal to rebuild around Devin Booker. If the Suns were to do this, they may have some players in mind of who they could receive in return and Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley recently named three potential trade targets for the Suns in the offseason.
The three players Buckley named were Fred VanVleet, Devin Vassell and Paul George.
Of course, the Houston Rockets have been a team tied to a potential Durant trade in the offseason, and the Suns could look to acquire VanVleet in return. This would be a major upgrade to their point guard position and would help the Suns remain a somewhat competitive team next season.
The San Antonio Spurs have also been a team mentioned as a potential landing spot for Durant and the Suns could look to add Vassell in a potential trade. Vassell has dealt with injuries throughout his career and has been extremely inconsistent this season, but he still has a ton of room to grow, which he could do in Phoenix.
The third player Buckley mentioned was George. Of course, George’s first season with the Philadelphia 76ers has not gone to plan thus far, and they may look to trade him in the offseason. For the Suns to acquire him, they would have to send either Durant or Beal to Philadelphia, which would be a major risk due to George’s drop off this season.
All three of the players Buckley named would fit well in Phoenix, but the Suns may look to instead begin a rebuild in the offseason instead of revamping their roster.
