3-Team Mock Trade Sends Kings’ Domantas Sabonis, Keegan Murray to Knicks for Star Center

The Sacramento Kings have had a busy offseason thus far as they try to bounce back after missing the playoffs once again last season.

Sacramento’s offseason began in the 2025 NBA Draft where they traded into the first round to select Nique Clifford and then drafted Maxime Raynaud in the second round.

To start off free agency, the Kings signed Dennis Schroder to fill their void at the starting point guard position and also added Drew Eubanks after trading Jonas Valanciunas to the Denver Nuggets for Dario Saric.

While the Kings have been active thus far, they are expected to make more moves during the offseason and Sports Illustrated’s Rohan Raman recently released a mock trade that would send Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray to the New York Knicks for Karl-Anthony Towns.

In the trade, the Kings would acquire Towns and two first-round picks from the Knicks while sending Sabonis and Murray to New York.

The Knicks would also land Kobe Bufkin, Vit Krejci and a lottery-protected 2030 first-round pick from the Atlanta Hawks while sending Josh Hart to Atlanta.

This would be an interesting trade for every team involved, though it does not make much sense for the Kings.

By swapping Sabonis and Murray to add future draft capital and Towns, it would likely signal the start of a rebuild for the Kings, which does not look like it is going to begin this offseason with their moves in free agency.

Towns would also be a downgrade on the defensive end compared to Sabonis and losing Murray would be a massive blow for Sacramento as he is set to be a key young piece they can build around in the future if they decide to start a rebuild in the coming years.

Due to this, it is likely that the Kings would hold off on this trade as they instead look to make a push towards a playoff spot in the Western Conference next season with most of their current core.
